Windows xp pro boots to black screen with cursor

Apparently, to me at least, this Framework issue had been ongoing for some time before I got the system. There are no. NET Frameworks currently installed atm. System had McAfee, avast! Used the vendor uninstall tools to completely remove all traces left behind after these programs were previously uninstalled.

Image backups were made at every point before making any major changes to the system; a backup was made before using the. NET Framework uninstall tool. Since this system was being worked on, I made certain that essential recovery tools still worked properly as I went along.

Safe Mode still worked, and chkdsk still worked, up to the point the uninstall tool was used. I took a hike once, and left the hourglass alone, took twenty minutes to get to "Windows is starting up", another ten to get to "Welcome", and another fifteen to get to the desktop, which was unusable and moving the mouse cursor down to the taskbar showed a busy cursor. I was attempting to run Task Manager, but was unable to call that program up. Two error boxes did display: NvCplDameon.

There are three of them on this system. At least Safe Mode still works in this configuration, but is unreachable when chkdsk has been run and the system reboots. Restoring a known good image backup also works. So, if I run chkdsk, and the system reboots, then the system is unusable. If I call chkdsk, and cancel, and the system reboots, the system is unusable, at least until I select Last Known Good, and reboot.

Safe Mode still works as long as chkdsk is not run. Running Avast! Internet Security on trial for now. System is known clean. No known infections ongoing at this time. This thread is locked. Which made me think, that the hdd could have disk of file errors.

I went to www. In the advanced scan it found multiple errors and repair those. Then made another scan and all errors where solved. Then restarted windows normal Automaticly scandisk was running and repaired several files. Did another restart en everything was ok, normal windows logon screen appeared and windows was running like before. So no need for a windows repair which in my case didn't work anyway.
